Lichthaus

The hall of the Lichthaus has a parquet floor with a gigantic 450 square metre (dance) area. In addition, there is the foyer for the bar and check-in, as well as a spacious, covered outdoor terrace by the main staircase. We have loads of space for dancing!
The building between the river and city tells the story of the district's turbulent history and recalls its occupation by workers protesting against the closure of the shipyard in the early 1980s.
»Unlike the main administration building, the 1920s building dispenses with any historical references: a slightly protruding central risalit on each flank structures the sober façade, only the north side facing the main administration building hints with high vertical window bands that this was once the central office building of the most powerful shipyard in the empire at the time.
Inside, the building's aesthetics are derived from its function: in the main hall on the ground floor, thousands of workers were handed their pay packets every week. Large, triple-panelled windows on the sides and a spacious atrium in the ceiling make the hall a sun-drenched spatial experience.»
